M.S. Computer Science Degree Requirements
(effective Fall 2008)


Entrance Requirements

For students without a Computer Science undergraduate degree.
MAT 315 Calculus I
MAT 302 Discrete Math
Statistics (such as ECON 313 or MAT 321)
CSC 325 Computer Science I
CSC 375 Computer Science II
CSC 376 Computer Organization
CSC 385 Data Structures and Alrgorithms
CSC 388 Programming Languages
CSC 389 Intro to Operating Systems

Notes

  • You must follow the degree plan that was in effect when you began graduate studies at UIS (or later). The M.A. degree was changed in Fall 88, Fall 95, Fall 06, and Fall 08. Consult your CSC advisor if you have questions about which degree you should follow.
  • You must earn a grade of B- or better in all courses that apply to the degree.
  • You will be placed on academic probation if you do not maintain a 3.0 grade-point average.
  • Graduate students enrolled in 400-level courses should expect more stringent grading standards and/or additional assignments.

CSC Electives (28 hours)

You must complete 28 hours of CSC electives approved by your CSC advisor. Courses numbered CSC 410 will NOT count on the Master's in CSC. Courses numbered above CSC 410 may be
applied to the Master's Degree in CSC.

At least sixteen hours must be at the 500-level:
570, 572, 574, 577, 578, 581, 582, 583.
