Our program offers a bachelor of science (scientiae baccalaureus, S.B. or B.S.) in the field of computer science. A concentration in computer science will familiarize students with the various areas of knowledge that make up the field. Students will develop a firm understanding of the fundamental skills and core theories of computer science which power the rapid technological change in the world today. Upon completion, a student with a bachelor of science will be prepared for graduate studies in computer science or studies in other fields that are strongly associated with computer science.

     Currently, formal application to the program is required for admission. For undergraduate students transferring from other colleges, CSC entrance requirements include two semesters of Java programming experience, or the equivalent, one semester of calculus, discrete or finite mathematics, and statistics. Admission to the online degree program may vary slightly from this. Please check the admissions policy under the "Online Degree Admission" link. CSC 325, CSC 375, MAT 115, MAT 302, and MAT 121 or 323 may be taken at UIS to satisfy the prerequisites. Enrollment in CSC 305 Entrance Assessment is also required during the first semester. Students considering an advanced degree or a career in a scientific field are strongly encouraged to take a second semester of calculus. Twelve hours from these courses may be counted toward the degree as general electives. Students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of UIS requirements in the areas of liberal studies colloquia, public affairs colloquia, and applied study. At least four hours must be earned in each of two areas.
