Dr. Lucas Vespa

Dr. Lucas Vespa has been working in security research since 2008. His work on his security centric dissertation concentrated on efficient methods for deep packet inspection. In 2011, Vespa joined the University of Illinois Springfield as faculty in the Computer Science Department. He continues to do research in network security, specifically creating tools for real-time security analysis and GPU acceleration of security applications. In 2012 he received the Faculty Scholarship Grant from the University of Illinois Springfield, for a security related project. For this project Vespa supervises three undergraduate students performing security research. Vespa has published many articles in cyber security, and is currently helping to build a cyber-security research center at the University of Illinois Springfield. Vespa also teaches in the field of cyber-security. He teaches several security courses which he has substantially updated in 2012. Also in 2012, he authored an application to the Illinois Board of Higher Education for a bachelor's program in Information Systems Security, which is currently offered by the UIS Computer Science Department. Vespa recently received an equipment grant from NVidia for his work in high-performance computing in security.
