Cyber Defense and Disaster Recovery Conference 2009On March 13, the Computer Science Department hosts the Cyber Defense and Disaster Recovery Conference 2009. Cyber Defense and Disaster Recovery Conference: Protecting our Infrastructure AssetsThe Computer Science Department hosted the Cyber Defense and Disaster Recovery Conference: Protecting our Infrastructure Assets. This is a one-day interactive conference addressing the critical issue of protecting our infrastructure assets. Breakout sessions considered this issue from different perspectives. The conference futured several distinguished guest speakers: Bruce Finn, Jeff Thompson, Steven Miller, Denis Edgar-Nevill, the FBI Response Team, and Mark Cheviron. Cyber Defense and Disaster Recovery Conference: Planning for Pandemic CrisisOn March 9, 2007, the Computer Sceince Department hosted the Cyber Defense and Disaster Recovery Conference: Planning for Pandemic Crisis. The Conference addressed the impact of high absenteeism in the event of a cross sector pandemic crisis. What happens when a large number of employees don’t show up for work due to illness, caring for family members or quarantine? How can industry leaders plan for cyber attacks that might occur when the workplace is vulnerable? How will national infrastructures protect digital assets with a 60% projected absentee rate? Invited speakers were Leonard Bailey Senior Counsel, Computer Crime Section Information Infrastructure Protection; Scott McPherson Chief Information Officer, Florida House of Representatives; Kyle Belz, Director, Corporate Health and Safety American Red Cross. The Cyber Defense and Disaster Recovery Conference 2006The Computer Science Department organized and hosted a one-day conference addressing the critical issue of emergency response and disaster recovery. Keynote speakers will gave presentations of current issues. Attendees learned effective techniques and participate in a tabletop exercise based on a realistic disaster scenario. Keynote speakers were Dr. Newton Howard, Center for Advanced Defense Studies, Washington, D.C.; Dr. Roy Campbell Sohaib and Sara Abbasi Professor in Computer Science, UICU; Dr. Sviatoslav Braynov, Assistant Professor at UIS.
